Analisis Ambiguitas al-Khāzin terhadap Kisah Isrā’īliyyāt: Studi Kasus Tafsīr Sūrat Ṣād Āyat 21–25

Abstract

This study examines the conceptual ambiguity in al-Khāzin’s interpretation of Qur’anic narratives influenced by Isrā’īliyyāt, focusing specifically on Surah Ṣād verses 21–25. These verses recount the story of Prophet Dāwud, a figure whose integrity is frequently questioned through apocryphal accounts rooted in Jewish and Christian traditions. Although al-Khāzin initially incorporates numerous such narratives—many of which lack authentic chains of transmission—he later inserts a distinct apologetic section titled Faṣl fī Tanzīh Dāwūd ‘an Mā Lā Yalīqu bihī, in which he explicitly rejects claims that undermine prophetic dignity. Employing a descriptive-qualitative approach, this study analyzes al-Khāzin’s narrative structure, his selective use of sources, and the thematic inconsistencies within his exegetical method. Despite briefly criticizing problematic elements of Isrā’īliyyāt, al-Khāzin continues to cite unverifiable reports—particularly those attributed to Wahb ibn Munabbih—without critical commentary. This selective approach reveals a tension between theological caution and narrative appeal. The findings underscore the importance of critical literacy when engaging with classical tafsir, as the presence of Isrā’īliyyāt can significantly shape perceptions of prophetic morality and faith. Moreover, the absence of explicit methodological criteria in al-Khāzin’s introduction further complicates the reader’s ability to discern the orientation and consistency of his exegetical perspective.
